The Bible books of Matthew and Mark in Cuban Sign Language were released on January 20, 2024, at a special event at Havana's Guanabacoa Assembly Hall. The release was instantly available for download at jw.org.
Approximately 53,000 deaf persons live in Cuba. Beginning in the early 1990s, a concerted effort was made to inform Cuba's deaf population of the good news. The first Bible-based books were published in Cuban Sign Language in 2011. Currently, 756 brothers and sisters serve in 28 sign-language churches and ten organisations across the country.
This is the first time the Bible books Matthew and Mark have been translated into Cuban sign language. One sister said, "The way the tale of Jesus healing the deaf man in Mark 7:32-37 was translated made me feel as if I were there! It genuinely affected my heart. Now I have a better idea of what life would be like on the new planet. "Thank you!"
We celebrate with everyone who got this spiritual gift, and we are convinced that many more Cuban Sign Language users will learn to adore Jehovah with their 'whole heart, soul, and mind.'—Mark 12:30.
